PHOENIX 1/8 is in the London home of Roland Emmerich
The open fireplace is a feature of the British home which, perhaps, represents the greatest opportunity for sculptural expression anywhere in the domestic space. Traditional interiors configure furniture around the focal point of the fireplace, and there is little constraint on the physical form of a firegrate beyond its capacity to contain burning wood or coals.
Phoenix to create a sculptural and decorative feature-piece and technical tour-de-force. Despite the unforgiving, heavy industrial materials, its curves swirl through space with fluidity, often appearing to float entirely free of the structure, or to balance with the delicate poise of a ballet dancer.
There are clear references to antique styles and forms in this piece.
