The place of parametrics and CAD is, for me, usually not in the core creative process; but in dynamic exploration and design refinement.

For this project - completing an antique fireplace composition - I devised a surface mapping process in Grasshopper to transfer a geometric texture onto a complex curved surface; enabling the orientation of the pattern to be controlled and adjusted.

The resulting digital model was divided into segments for milling, and re-assembled as a conventional foundry pattern.
