MINOTAUR
Minotaur, from my "Imagined Creatures" series, is constructed from reclaimed scaffolding planks. It's undulating surfaces are achieved by building up hand-cut contoured blocks of timber; and, although the contours are CAD-generated, from a mathematically precise and symmetrical digital model, the process of hand-building - combined with the natural warping and distortion of the boards - results in a subtle asymmetry and somewhat irregular form.
Both the choice of material, and the making process, lend this work a character reminiscent of a well-used and somewhat worldly-wise antique.
