From August 17th to 25th, 2024, Visual Arts Scotland will celebrate their centenary with a show at Dalkeith Palace near Edinburgh.
Two works by Peter Linnett will feature in the the interiors of the Palace, and these represent contrasting strands in his sculpture practice:- The antique-inspired art-furniture series “Imagined Creatures” is represented by a fantastical writing desk, “Centaur”; whilst “Flights” represents a line of (slightly) more conventional sculpture: abstract in form, with a context-driven parasitic twist.
The runs concurrently with the Edinburgh International Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

featured works:
Flights
sculpture triptych
Flights is a series of works about space exploration. Not inter-planetary space - although some of the forms might be reminiscent of science fiction spacecraft - but architectural or domestic space.
These works are “parasitic”, in that they comment on, and interact with, their environment - implying a line of connection, a linkage, or direction of flow through adjacent spaces; or a line which cuts across the rigid geometry of a room.
Centaur
writing desk
This incarnation of the Centaur writing desk is hand-carved and constructed from recycled scaffolding planks, with sand-cast bronze stiletto hooves.
It belongs to the series Imagined Creatures: art furniture works which embody the narrative resonances found in antiques and historical artefacts.
The sculpting and hand-forming processes, and flawed nature of the raw materials, are celebrated and expressed; and processes of ageing and decay are encouraged - becoming an integral part of the work.
